Patzún huipil. (possibly ceremonial) W 89 x L 125 cm opened. This fine post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two red cotton/rayon blend base panels – a combination known as “aleman”, prized for its softness and drape. These panels are joined by a hand embroidered decorative seams. They feature extensive hand embroidered decoration featuring “plumas” and glyph motifs – the “zodiac” style. The glyphs represent the months of the Maya calendar and each is named in Kaqchikel. This huipil may have been used ceremonially. It is excellent condition. It was acquired from Ana Carilina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (See Ana Carolina's picture in our "Vendors" section.) (11-99) $ 200. Sold.
