Santa Maria Chiquimula daily huipil.
This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back-strap loom in two
warp-striped cotton panels that are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. Hand embroidery also
decorates the head opening. The dark blue warp stripes are indigo dyed. Chiquimula huipils are uncommon.
This example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbo Mateo of
Chichicastenango at the “bomberos” textile market in Panajachel.. W 79 x L 66 cm. (15-285) $ 80. OBO
